Our Brews Sampled and Favorites
Looking for something to do in Fort Worth TX? We recently visited and taste tested craft beers at one of the Breweries in Fort Worth, TX. The brewery is named Panther Island Brewing Co.
As you may know I prefer the darker style, and my wife leans toward the hazy IPA. We arrived late-afternoon and we were unable to purchase a flight. Our bartender had some samples poured for us as we were walking up. Some of here choices were not our mug of beer, but we quickly found our sample we liked.
First thing to comment on is the high number of in-house brews they offer at all times. Some locations have 6-8, they had 16 active taps with a good variety of styles. We sampled several brews:
· Hazy Cat New England IPA
· IPF’NA Imperial West Coast IPA,
· Sweet Fang Milk Stout
· Fort Worth Brewnette
· Allergeez
· Gose Melon
· Dark Cowboy French Suison
· L’ete en Hiver Cabernet solerui barrel aged mango Hande ale
My wife’s favorite was the IPF’NA West Coast IPA and mine was the Fort Worth Brewnette. After enjoying our respective pints, we noticed the banner showing the gold and silver award winning Allergeez American Wheat Ale. We decided to split a pint of that and were rewarded with a smooth flavorful brew.
They also have their own brand of wines on the menu. We did not sample any of the wines.
Brewery Ambiance
Panther Island Brewery is designed for socializing. They have lots of space lots of tables a patio on the side of the building. They have a juke box, electric video game, a shelf full of board games, corn hole and plenty of seating for couples or for large groups. All the staff was friendly and welcoming. They appeared happy to be there and happy we were there.
And they are absolutely dog friendly there.

Food
The food truck outside served a variety of tacos. We split one chicken and one pulled pork. Both had plenty of flavor and heat, with the pulled pork being our favorite.

Brewery Owner Interview
We spoke with Joe, the taproom general manager on our visit.
AMAH: How long has Panther Island been operating?
PI: Panther Island in Fort Worth has been in existence for seven and a half years. We are family owned and operated.
AMAH: What did the owners do prior to opening this brewery?
PI: There are a few owners. They are all family. Their professions range from senior living assistant to musician. Brian, our head Brewer, was in a band touring and visiting breweries around the world and he started off as a home Brewer.
AMAH: How do you guys handle the pandemic?
PI: First, Fort Worth is a fantastic city to work with and we felt that especially when we started making our beer to go. And in addition, Governor Abbott set those rules in place where we could sell beer to go. And that was our big reason why we were able to survive the shutdown. Many of our loyal customers ordered every few days, and we were brewing new flavors and formulas to keep things interesting.
AMAH: Your story is similar to Southern Star in Conroe, TX.
AMAH: Most owners we've spoken with have one or two charities that they hold you to their heart. Does Panther Island have any of those relationships?
PI: We've done fundraisers with and for the Tarrant County Area Food Bank. We have pet adoptions with the local pet shelters. And several other community groups.
AMAH: The pet adoption at a Lappy Hour is how my wife adopted her current dog. They all look cuter after a few beers.
AMAH: Anything else you want to share about your brewery?
PI: Yes, we are open Wednesday through Sunday. Wednesdays and Thursdays are four to 10 PM. Friday Saturday and Sunday 2:00 to 10:00 PM. We'll have a food truck on hand. We are family and pet friendly here. We offer a happy hour Thursdays through and Sundays as well. If craft beer isn't your thing, we also have house red and white wines as well as ciders. We have a couple of GABF medals under our belts. The silver and the gold are four our flagship beer known as Allergeez. This is a wheat beer that has local honey, rosehips, and chamomile. We went up against 600 other breweries across the nation and we pride ourselves on that.
About the Authors
When I first started dating my wife, we enjoyed popular domestic beers. I am sure visiting a craft brewery was her idea. Our taste buds rejoiced as we sampled the various brews. It did not take long before our tastes diverted – the darker ambers, reds, porters, and stouts for me, IPA, Hazy IPA, and pilsners for her.
When we retired, we decided to visit as many of our National Parks across this country. It seemed a natural fit to visit breweries in the many cities we travel through as we drive to the parks.
We currently reside in Fort Worth, Texas. Texas has about 300 micro-breweries, and the Metroplex has over 80. Which means we have a whole lot of day trips ahead of us to visit our local breweries.
