Brews we sampled

Brick Vault Brewery and Barbecue is a brewery in Marathon, Tx

Technically this is not a review of the brewery location similar to our other visits. We visited Marathon, Texas while attending Viva Big Bend 2022 music festival event and were unable to visit the brewery due to their operating hours. However, they sponsored a musical event in Fort Davis, and brought two brews for attendees to enjoy.

The Cowboy Blonde was our favorite. Not too strong, with a crisp finish and was perfect on that 100-degree afternoon. They also served their Patio Kolsch which many others enjoyed.

The head brew master Amy talked about how they have been able to remain open for 5 years after a larger brewery in the area, Big Bend Brewery had to close its doors. You can see her full interview on YouTube.

Atmosphere

The brewery is located inside an old converted gas station and their patio has plenty of space and shade to enjoy a meal and brew.

Food

I could smell their smoking pit as we walked through town. I was highly disappointed they were not opening until later that afternoon. The smell was wonderful.

Merchandise

They passed out free hats in addition to free will donation brews!

About the Authors

When I first started dating my wife, we enjoyed popular domestic beers. I am sure visiting a craft brewery was her idea. Our taste buds rejoiced as we sampled the various brews. It did not take long before our tastes diverted – the darker ambers, reds, porters, and stouts for me, IPA, Hazy IPA, and pilsners for her.

When we retired, we decided to visit as many of our National Parks across this country. It seemed a natural fit to visit breweries in the many cities we travel through as we drive to the parks.

We currently reside in Fort Worth, Texas. Texas has about 300 micro-breweries, and the Metroplex has over 80. Which means we have a whole lot of day trips ahead of us to visit our local breweries.
